Traidcraft’s mission is to fight poverty through trade, practising and promoting approaches to trade that help poor people in developing countries transform their lives.
In practice, this means that we try to provide poor people in the Third World with the means of earning their own living and supporting their families with dignity. We do this by buying their produce, as it is often very difficult, for a variety of reasons, for them to break into world markets. This may mean that we pay a little more for things, but it also means that producers in the Third World are paid a living wage for their work.
Locally, a small group from Holy Name provide sale or return goods on a regular monthly basis to our churches and occasionally to other churches and to schools. Goods are on sale after Mass at Holy Name the second weekend of the month and at St Peter’s on the third Sunday.
We are always looking for better ways of promoting Traidcraft, and ideas and help would be very welcome.
