As parish catechists we welcome and journey with people with special pastoral needs to form small communities of faith. We currently have eight catechists supporting five friends with learning and developmental disabilities. We arrange transport to our meetings where needed. We meet in Holy Name parish hall and we follow a twelve session programme.
Catechist preparation meetings are followed on alternate weeks by an integrated session with our friends.
Each integrated session consists of three aspects: a preparation activity session designed to produce a calming atmosphere to ready us to receive the Word of God; a liturgy, using symbols, gesture, mime and music; and an agape/celebration meal which is symbolic of the Eucharist. We seek to involve family members in all aspects of our work.
