The role of the Parish Safeguarding Rep is to help promote good and safe practice in pastoral contact with children, young people and vulnerable adults. Examples of such contact include children’s’ liturgy, preparation for the sacraments, and other ministries such as Spred and those such as Eucharistic Ministers involved in visits to the sick and housebound.
The parish role is to work with ministers at parish level while liaising with the diocesan co-ordinator. Part of the role is to help facilitate the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) procedure and to ensure that everyone who is required to undergo that procedure does so.
