My name is John Hovington. I have been Parish Priest of St Peter's since 1997 and in 2009 I was asked by Bishop Brian Noble to take over responsibility also for Holy Name Parish. Since the presbytery of Holy Name was on the site of the Church, I was asked to make that my home and the house at 2, Beryl Road, which had been the presbytery for St Peters parish became vacant. After about 12months Beryl Road then was used as the retirement home for Fr Jack McLeish. When I first took over the two parishes it became clear that both parish comunities had wondered and fretted about their future viability. My appointment calmed all those fears and the two communities have worked extremely well to cope with the inevitable difficulties of changes to Mass times and to having one priest rather than the two. I must thank the parishioners for their great generosity and hard work in making the two parishes into one coherent community. People now see themselves not as St Peters or Holy Name but as parishioners of St Peter's and Holy Name.
Deacon: Rev. Leslie Arch Ordained 2007
My name is Les Arch and I was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Bishop Brian Noble on 7th July 2007 in Shrewsbury Cathedral. I am married to Mary and we have three grown up children, David, Philip and Helen. I have been involved in St. Joseph's parish life for some twenty years, and it was Fr. Terry Boylan who suggested to me that I might consider becoming a deacon. The training involved studying the Catholic Certificate for Religious Studies ( CCRS) whilst training for the diaconate for three years. I hope to serve the people of the parish for many years to come.
